Investing in Justice

Legislative and Policy Advocacy

The CBF works with members of our legal community and a number of partner organizations to advocate with legislators and government officials for support of policies that improve access to justice. The CBF's current legislative/policy advocacy efforts center on three overarching areas:

(1) Funding for legal aid at the federal, state and local levels

(2) Loan forgiveness and repayment assistance programs for legal aid and public service lawyers

(3) Other systemic access to justice issues

Over the years, working together with a number of local and national partners and many dedicated volunteers, the CBF has successfully advocated for the passage of a number of important legislative initiatives to increase access to justice. Read just a few examples of the impact of these efforts.

The success of our collective efforts depends on legislators and government officials hearing from their constituents about why these issues are so critical to their communities. The CBF and our many volunteers play an important role by educating our elected officials about the impact that government funding of legal aid has in the lives of their constituents.
